Overall Satisfaction with PRTG Network Monitor

Certainly! PRTG Network Monitor plays a crucial role in our organization, providing valuable insights into our network infrastructure. By monitoring switches, networking equipment, and servers, it ensures uptime and alerts us to potential issues. With PRTG Network Monitor’s quick setup and network-wide visibility, we can proactively address any anomalies, maintain system health, and optimize performance. We utilize PRTG Network Monitor to keep our department informed by the minute of our network and server infrastructure in the entire organization and the multiple states we operate in.

Pros

  • Switch monitoring and finding out if there are communication issues or throughput alerts are reached
  • Big picture view of the whole infrastructure and what is functioning and what is not
  • Uptime tracking is great and lets us know for how long a device is down or overall uptime

Cons

  • GUI is very dated looking and basic
  • Being able to have visibility easily on when someone is looking at a device issue in the org
  • More alert settings for specific situations or providing a pause on certain devices
  • Cost savings in lost office uptime as PRTG Network Monitor helps us move quickly on something that is not functioning
  • Optimization of our network by seeing where heavy traffic for certain deployed networking may need more services for better handling
  • Time savings by notifying groups of individuals rather than one person then communicating with others
The GUI is dated and the settings are easily found but this could be more simplified and made better for the end user. The settings options are fewer than there should be for alerts. But the basics are there and it does work easily when you have it set.
One universal package is offered regardless of organization and that is very important to us as a non profit org as well as they offered the sensoring features without additional cost. This was an easier decision to make knowing this would likely cover all our interests and we could evaluate it later if needed.

Yes

It is well suited for an environment that deploys networking equipment and is needing monitoring 24/7. It works well to deliver real time data and alerts that are suited for taking action and notifying groups of members.
It is less appropriate for use cases that involve only a few devices that don’t have dedicated teams looking for problems or uptime.
