Overall Satisfaction with Linode
With the exception of email, we use Linode as the foundation of our entire web-stack. Linode has been rock solid and their support on the rare occasion we have run into difficulty has been second to none. The transition to Linode being acquired by Akamai has thus far been without any issue.
Pros
- Reliability
- Customer Support
- Cutting Edge Technology
Cons
- Email is a hard problem to solve well. A secure, plug-and-play solution from Linode would have made this aspect the web side of our business a snap.
- Lower cost for better performance compared to our previous server.
- Lower cost for higher security compared to our previous server.
Linode's price for performance is unmatched. The scalability and customizability of their offerings is likewise superlative. Uptime is great and they have servers in all of the places we need them. Security is on par with the rest. Their web interface is useful. Their knowledgebase is well maintained. Unlike AWS, there's no need to install any special command line tools to interoperate directly with the servers.

Using Linode

- Online web presence

Evaluating Linode and Competitors
Yes - We moved to Linode from MediaTemple after MediaTemple was acquired by GoDaddy. MediaTemple's previously strong offerings atrophied under GoDaddy's management and they failed to keep pace with modern web technologies and standards.
- Cloud Solutions
- Scalability
- Integration with Other Systems
- Ease of Use
Linode is supremely versatile and their support team is phenomenal.
I wouldn't change anything. We are very happy.
Linode Implementation
- Implemented in-house
Yes - First, we split off and migrated our email implementation away from our previous hosting provider to a new service. Then we slowly migrated each site over to Linode. Once everything was confirmed to be operating as expected over the course of several week, we performed one final backup of the old service and shut it down. Lastly, we migrated our DNS over.
Change management was minimal
- No issues were encountered

No, it hasn't needed. Their customer support team is knowledgeable and empowered to help clients get to the best possible outcomes.
We had applied a Linux update that resulted in a server malfunction that we had difficulty resolving. A member of their support team helped us remedy the issue in under 15 minutes.
