Linode is great! What more needs to be said?
Overall Satisfaction with Linode
We were a small hosting company, all of our web servers and various other services were run on Linode's platform. Although I have largely exited the Webhosting industry, I still have a few Linodes hosting our internal applications, customer-facing website, and a few remaining customer sites. To this day, I run some public mirrors for a few open-source projects.
Pros
- Pricing
- Reliability
- Hardware/Technical Support
Cons
- S3-compatible storage expensive
- Bandwidth Alliance membership was dropped silently
- Cheaper and more reliable than owning our own gear
- DigitalOcean and Vultr
I've used a few other platforms, DigitalOcean is probably the closest, but Linode always had better backend tools aimed at geeks whereas DigitalOcean just focuses too much on blank whitespace on their control panel, while offering less functionality.
Performance was similar, with Linode being more consistent, and being more likely to exceed expectations. With the backend tools being better for me.
I use Vultr for a few services right now, in particular for redundancy where I want a non-Linode service. Linode is still my go-to.
