Overall Satisfaction with Atlassian Jira

We use Jira for the complete lifecycle of software and product development in the company, from Strategy initiatives to Projects with Sprints, individual Stories and internal Tasks and Acceptance Criteria. We manage Sprints in the Scrum way, we have internal teams for Dev groups but also for Product groups, we also use Jira Plan.

Pros

  • Interlinking of objects through brackets
  • Comprehensive Plugins store
  • Comprehensive search functionality

Cons

  • Screen cohesion: you can do the same thing in different places of Jira, which is great, but in each one of those places the same feature behaves a bit differently, which is extremely annoying
  • The Jira Plan feature is extremely poor and weak given it's cost, you can't even have the concept of milestones (vertical lines across all projects in the gantt) unless is a Release Date, it's extremely limited
  • Fields should be able to have dynamic properties, for example, set the Target End Date of a Story, to EQUAL the Start Date of another Story, so one influences the other
  • Lowered time to "be on top" of all the projects i have to oversee, using Jira Plans
  • Accelerates visibility of interdependencies and allows to plan to avoid them
  • Integration with Confluence allows to build a Knowledge Graph along with an Operational Platform like Jira
Its honestly pretty bad, looks old and extremely over-bloated, i said it before but i guess it makes sense to repeat here, it repeats features in different places of the platform but they DONT behave the same way, but slightly different each time, which generates tons of friction and increases the learning curve for low tech savy people.
I didn't pick Jira, it was imposed to me from my employer. If it were for me i would probably have used Linear, since i think it's much more streamlined and doesn't really have tons of less features, but rather an extremely simplified interface that can even work perfectly as a desktop experience (which by the way, BAD MOVE ATLASSIAN cutting the native app!)

Do you think Atlassian Jira delivers good value for the price?

No

Are you happy with Atlassian Jira's feature set?

No

Did Atlassian Jira live up to sales and marketing promises?

I wasn't involved with the selection/purchase process

Did implementation of Atlassian Jira go as expected?

I wasn't involved with the implementation phase

Would you buy Atlassian Jira again?

No

Jira is an over-bloated software, much like Microsoft software in general, it has tons of features who work super similarly to each other but they're not exactly the same feature. This is probably due to poor product development in which features are not thought strategically but rather as patches on top of other patches, but of course those softwares tend to excel in 1 thing: they are extremely flexible. So i would only recommend using Jira over, for example, Trello, is if it was a recommendation for a huge corpo.
