Planview PPM Pro
3 years of experience
We use it to track all IT Project Requests and track IT labor against those projects. We track project portfolios by business unit. In addition to Projects we also track Administrative, Operational, and Small Enhancement activities. Also use it to manage resources - to see what percent they are allocated for current and future project tasks.
  • Portfolio Management
  • Labor Reporting
  • Resource Management
Cons
  • Reporting (but we are looking forward to Reports 2.0)
  • Field level security
Well suited for Project Portfolio Management - gives visibility to all portfolios and projects within. We are not using it for the individual project management activities - not as a methodology

Would like to explore the Project Request stage gate process/workflow.
  • Visibility to IT Projects
  • Ability to view/manage individual Project Portfolios
  • Resource utilization
Not involved in selection process at my company. I have worked with other PPM tools at past companies - including an older version of Planview (back in early 2000's)

We still consider PPM Pro one of our strategic platforms for managing IT and the internal functions of IT. There are no plans for replacing it; actually looking for more adoption of the platform.
No
  • Cloud Solutions
  • Ease of Use
Having a single cntralized system of record for all IT Demand, Resource Forecasting, Labor Reporting
PPM Pro is the older generation Project Portfolio platform offered by Planview. If we started over, we would consider their newer platform Planview Portfolios. It appears that Portfolios has enhanced capabilities and is better integrated with other newer product offerings of Planivew
Was not part of original implementation, but we have used Professional Services last 2 years for additional PPM Pro functionality (Request Management)
  • Don't know
  • Ongoing adoption of PPM Pro processes
  • No Training
Fairly easy. Between Customer Success Center and Professional Services we felt very supported.
Very flexible and easy to learn configuration; good support documentation (Customer Success Center portal)
Would like to see Self Service Administration (SSA) for the Resource entity on a similar scale to what is offered for Request and Project entities.
Yes - we have customized the interface extensively
Very easy when leveraging the Self Service Administration capabilities. Professional Services also very effective to help fill in any knowledge gaps
Yes - we have added extensive custom code
Relatively easy since they built Self Service Administration capability across the platform
We are now exploring the integration of PPM Pro with Power BI analytics platform. Have been able to configure ODATA feed just by using documentation available on the CSC portal
Very rarely have we had to open support tickets for PPM Pro. When we did open support ticket, the acknowledgement and response/fix was very timely and effective.
PPM Pro Customer Success Center portal is also very valuable for how to configuration information.
On standard support. With PPM Pro we have had very few serious issues over the last 10 years. We did not feel a need for it and still feel that same way today.
Yes
Yes, the Support Case resolution was timely and effectively resolved the underlying issue.
We have used Planview Professional Services very effectively over the last 2 years for PPM Pro configuration guidance as well as best practices for using PPM Pro. Their model of offering pool of consulting hours gives us most flexibility and is not limited to singular project or functional topic.
PPM Pro has very effective process capabilities around Project, Demand, and Resource Management as well as Reporting/Dashboards. Very stable platform, never any downtime.
We now also have PPM Pro Sandbox which we have leveraged for any new major developments such as Request Management.
  • Timekeeping
  • Request & Project Portfolio Management
  • Reporting & Dashboards
  • Resource management while not difficult takes discipline in maintaining underlying project/resource data
Yes, but I don't use it
We have always used PPM Pro across multiple Business Units and Business Functions and have never encountered any scalability issues. PPM Pro offers flexibility in how the various Entities are configured across the Enterprise
Never any availability issues or outages. The few process issues we have ever encountered were addressed and resolved quickly.
No issues with overall response time and performance. There have been some occasions where a Report could take few minutes to render but this is vary rare.
No integration issues...
We are currently in process of integrating PPM Pro Dashboards with Power BI platform. This has been going very smoothly.
We currently do not have any other integrations.
  • Power BI
Reporting & Dashboards, Analytics...relatively easy to achieve
  • ServiceNow
  • Application Portfolio Management
Yes, PPM Pro offers integrations with many of the major vendors
  • File import/export
  • Single Signon

Study up on the readily available documentation on CSC
Consider Professional Services for more complex needs
Was not involved in the initial purchase of PPM Pro. Have worked with Sales in procuring Professional Services as well as PPM Pro Sandbox. This went very smoothly...
Planview always readily available to discuss new opportunities as well as any support issues
Very effective and flexible - we obtained a pool of consulting hours that we can use at any time over 12 month period. Consulting topics can vary as we explore new functionalities in PPM Pro. Very easy to schedule ad-hoc time with PPM Pro consultant
I was not involved in the initial purchase of PPM Pro. Planview has been very reasonable and flexible in presenting PPM Pro renewals and Professional Services.
I have no issues with current licensing and renewal terms...
Nothing specific that comes to mind...
Yes
PPM Pro upgrade process is on automatic monthly release schedule. We have never encountered any issues with new releases.
  • Knowing that we are always on most current release
  • Nothing specific at this time - just continued sustainability
Yes
Long term (2-3 years) we may consider moving to Planview Portfolios and/or other product offerings such as Enterprise Architecture.
