IBM Maximo Application Suite
18 years of experience
Our organization implements IBM Maximo Products and solutions for clients throughout the region and others. The significant problems that IBM Maximo addresses and solves for our clients are related to Asset Management, Maintenance, Monitoring, Procurement, and Financial transactions. Most clients seek to implement IBM Maximo because of its ease of use and level of configuration and customization capabilities built within the system to cater to any business needs. Companies that require to procure, deploy, manage and maintain their assets in the oil and gas industry or utilities have the best use with IBM Maximo due to its Out-of-Box capabilities that provide industry-specific solutions, all in one Enterprise Asset Management Solution.
  • Delivers Out-of-Box solutions for various industries without the need for customization and configuration
  • Modules and Applications are well developed and linked in an orderly way, with proper documentation and help guides that allow end users to start using the system with ease
  • Powerful Work Management, Contracts, Inventory, and Purchasing applications and features that are a better match to other ERP applications today
Cons
  • IBM Maximo Mobile solutions need to be considered as an area that needs improvement, with limited resources and very challenging to implement, this feature would be a best fit that many clients would like to see done and deployed differently
  • The Licensing scheme is not easy to understand
  • Reporting and Business Intelligence solutions provided are pretty much the same as previous versions and outdated
IBM Maximo is best suited in the OIl&Gas industry, Utilities, and Transportation. With the industry add-ons offering with IBM Maximo, many Out-of-Box solutions that come with the product and add-ons are well-equipped to help engineers and technicians in the field to record, manage and maintain their assets, work and data. Work Orders, Assets, Preventive Maintenance, Job Plans, Safety, Failure Reporting, and Inventory are the heavily used applications by users and the reason why IBM Maximo is best suited to deliver their needs. The software may not be a recommendation for Small and Medium Businesses having limited assets or fleets to manage and maintain. Clients come with enquires on financials and payroll software where IBM Maximo is less likely to be recommended.
  • Asset Management
  • Work Centers
  • IBM Maximo Cloud deployment
  • A Significant improvement in Tracking and Managing Assets with a History of PM Work Orders, Asset transfers, and maintenance costs linked to procurement and inventory usage
  • Record accurate labor work hours with proper people management while not missing any schedules and appointments
  • With the Cost Management and Budgeting application, it has allowed budget controllers to make timely and proper decisions in preparing budgets, booking costs, track commitments and over commitments, and make deliverable forecasts
The application is best of its class in Asset Life Cycle Management with powerful features for EAM, Predictive Analysis and Health. The data from Asset maintenance brings together a whole new picure for Asset Health and monitoring the life cycle of the asset starting from deployment until end of life.
Complementing IBM Maximo as compared to other ERP software in the market is the ease of use with a user-friendly web-based interface and improved skin that makes navigation and moving within applications easy. Powerful and robust applications such as Work Orders, Assets, Inventory Usage, and Budget Monitoring allows recording data and monitoring the business using Key Performace Indicators and Business Intelligence Reporting. The software can be implemented quicker and easier than other applications and with the cloud offering IBM Maximo has, going live has not been this easy.

I would not change the selection criteria.
Implementation of IBM MAS as a service provider has been easy. The functionality in the OEM space has been the best of its class with all related modules and application subject to maintenance.

Change management was a big part of the implementation and was well-handled
I have regularly contacted IBM Support to report issues and raise requests for issues we face during project implementations. The response from them has overall been good and to the point, and they get back to us within a day or 2 and guide us through the process of fixing it or providing an interim fix of the product
Clients have an Annual Customer Support Plan, and being a Premium IBM Business partner, we are heavily dependent on IBM and the products we support.

Very recently, a major issue was reported for one of our client upgrades and was categorized as a Severity 2 issue and was affecting the development phase. The Work Order tracking application was affected due to a faulty installation and produced a known issue. The problem was reported to IBM, who requested the client details, nature, and details of the IBM Maximo environment. The support staff quickly recommended applying the latest Fix pack for the HSE add-on that resolves the problem. The support team's recommendation worked, and they followed up with us to check if the fix helped resolve the issue.

Maximo Mobile is one of the best of its class when it comes to mobility and work management. The role based applications for technicians, supervisors and inventory staffs has all the the required functionality that would be needed to complete work both offline and online. The interface is easy to use with all required components coming out-of-the box. Customisation and configuration of the mobile app is easy with the seamless integration and deployment techniques using the maximo application framework.

IBM Maximo Application Suite is the one and only true promise for EAM solutions

Rating: 9 out of 10
August 26, 2024
I Use IBM MAS as my primary EAM system to be able to track and trace my most critical assets as well as how planned and un planned work is performed.
  • Asset Register
  • LTAP / Long term Asset Planning - Maintenance Management
  • Work Management
  • Scheduling
  • Authorization
  • Reliability Engineering Support
  • Supporting processes like Procurement and Logistics
  • Asset Health
  • Asset Monitoring
  • Prediction Models
Cons
  • Reduce the overwhelming information in most critical applications
  • Easier configuration of the newer Graphite apps
  • Move the annoying green banner to the Header of the application instead of placing it on top of the save and search buttons
Asset Management, Maintenance Management, Contract Management Work Management, Supporting processes like procure to pay and logistics, SLA Management, Reporting, KPI Management
  • Positive - Ease of use and configuration
  • Negative - too overwhelming that causes changes in backlog (I want to have it despite I don't have any process or data for it)
  • Positive - OotB already useable
  • Negative - it would help the customer to embed more industry specific accelerators in terms of data set based on regulation / industry specific requirements
  • Positive - first real ALM package that includes EAM, RCM and APM
It is definitely the Brest of breed EAM solution by far. I gave an 8 rate, since there is always room for improvement. It would help already if there were more industry specific "accelerators", not in terms of functionality but in terms of industry specific roles and data sets (and hide all functions, features and attributes that are not required for a certain industry)
IBM Maximo contains OotB much more detailed applications than HxGN and Ultimo. Regarding usability, IBM Maximo has by far a better flexible and adjustable user interface than SAP. Also the required functional breakdown in SAP is not in every industry needed. SAP lacks a sound coverage for complex asset configuration management and realtime compliance check such as the BDI feature in IBM Maximo.

Since we are an IBM Business Partner, selling and implementing IBM Maximo we don't may use the figures of clients. However, internally we use IBM Maximo as our time reporting, asset management and service provider solution. Within our company we have 25 active users that are using IBM Maximo for reporting and asset tracking purposes.
20
beside our staff and non-delivery related roles and functions, all our architects, functional- and technical consultants are IBM Maximo certified. Our core business is to implement and deploy IBM MAS8/9.
  • Asset Management - a sound and reliable asset register
  • Work Management - get the most out of our resources / smart planning
  • Asset Health and Reliability
  • We adjusted IBM Maximo by adding extra value adding features
  • IBM Maximo includes an amazing development and integration framework, open to add new features / innovative solutions
  • IBM Maximo Health (our core expertise)
  • IBM Maximo Monitor - discover the unknown
  • Extended features - adding smart addons by our R&D department
The Asset Management strategy of IBM in relation to constantly improve and extend features in IBM Maximo is commendable. Beside that we are design & development partner that gives us the opportunity to share new business trends and insights directly with the IBM Maximo Product Development teams.
No
  • Cloud Solutions
  • Scalability
  • Integration with Other Systems
  • Ease of Use
No, because we truly believe that IBM Maximo is incomparable with other EAM products (best of breed, continuous improvement, etc.)
Sure, but too much to write down here. I have written multiple BLOG post on both LinkedIn and the IBM TechXchange community, where I explain the do's / don'ts, +'s and -'s when implementing IBM Maximo.
  • Implemented in-house
Yes
We strongly believe in agility and deploy small iterations. Beside that we always advice a phased approach that suits the business needs compared tot the real maturity of an organisation.
Change management was a major issue with the implementation
Change Management is key for success. Don't think that IBM Maximo is the "magical box" that solves all your problems and challenges at once. It requires a solid change management process to ensure that "the new way of working" is adopted and accepted in your organization.
  • Data Harmonisation and Data collection
  • Business Processes not ready, existing or missing roles and responsibilities
  • Innovation (leverage of business features) not adjusted with Rollout strategy
Support is good (since we are business partner and do have direct contact with product development). For customers it might be sometime difficult to address real bugs ("work as designed syndrome") and/or additions, improvements or ideas. Creating them is quite easy, but track them in terms of follow-up can be done better.
No, since we are using the latest version of IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS9)
Yes
I think new are by far the number 1 of raising cases (PMR's) since we test the new version thoroughly before we decide to upgrade and/or after upgrade but before deploying to Production. Every identified bug is directly reported to avoid that customers / clients run into errors
Never experienced this
  • Asset Register
  • Basic Work Management
  • Basic Preventive Maintenance
  • Basic Service Desk
  • Master Data Setup
  • If you never used a Gannt planning, Graphical Scheduling might be difficult when you touch it for the very first time
  • Maximo Integration Framework required real technical IT knowledge
  • As for so many things in live - if your are new in Asset Management it is a steep learning curve to discover all features and how to use them in your organization
Yes
The new Maximo Mobile solution is the first version that seems to be adopted and accepted by clients. Although the mobile solution covers a UI designer tool (MAF-Tools), it requires some IT knowledge and background to get the UI adjusted to the needs of the customer. The basics are very similar to IBM Maximo foundation, but with MAS9 new technologies are used (React / Graphite / containerisation /etc.)

IBM Maximo Application Suite SCM solution review

Rating: 8 out of 10
August 14, 2024
We use IBM Maximo Application Suite for supply chain solutions like inventory and sale . It is really a good system and it addresses most of the issues like planning , stock management, shipping , asset management , procurement solutions. The best thing is its asset management and inventory management solution which as compare to other ERP solutions, is more efficient and more reliable
  • Inventory planning
  • Stock management
  • Warehouse management
Cons
  • Performance issues
  • Lot of navigation
  • Workflow problem
IBM Maximo Application Suite is error free solution with very less problems incurred during the operations. Sometimes it cause performance issues but being robust and less errors is very fruitful and cost effective. So I would recommend this software to all my clients, customer and colleagues. The supply chain solution is much better than other apps.
  • The ROI is very good
  • Cost effective
  • Error prone
  • Efficient
  • Easy to use
  • Less maintenance required
The IBM Maximo Application Suite is well known for inventory management solutions. This solution is in use by many corporations but mostly I have seen its use in Ports, defense and aerospace industries. Some of the benefits are
1. asset tracking is amazing
2. Maintenance cost is less
3. Reduced inspection costs
4. Less downtime
5. It allows customization
6 Simplify data management
7. Highly adaptable

EAM Maximo: Asset Lifecycle Delivery Tool?

Rating: 8 out of 10
February 06, 2024
We presently have Maximo installed in different instances in the US and Canada. It is the solution of choice for enterprise asset management services. We are currently working with IBM experts to rationalize the use of Maximo's available applications/functionality.
  • We like Maximo because it is highly configurable. We have faced challenges in the past where a lot of customizations have been done. This has resulted in a lot of pain when going for upgrades.
  • The recent development in the Asset Performance management area and having the capability to analyze the data has got us really excited and we are looking forward to more advanced capabilities in Maximo 7.6.
  • We have also enjoyed the capabilities it has provided in the operator log and managing our asset master data.
Cons
  • Maximo has been a good tool when it comes to managing assets but we miss some of the case management capabilities that some of the tools, such as Predix, have to provide. It may not be the key functionality today, but as we are maturing as an organization I think we will need capabilities where we can start designing predictive models.
  • Maximo is still not a product of choice for asset strategy development. We absolutely want to have Maximo do our Meridium functionality. However, today Maximo lacks that.
  • Maximo mobility has been exceptionally terrible. Because of the user interface it has, we lacked field mobility capability and now we are looking for Click as a potential software.
Maximo is a great versatile tool for a general enterprise asset management (EAM) solution - has great flexibility and many advanced solutions as well. It provides good integration with our ERP system as well. We use Oracle and it has been exceptionally good for us. The biggest challenge we face though is when it comes to more advanced digital transformation solutions. We wanted to test out predictive models on our critical assets- we have to try the APM solution from GE. Things like integration with IBM Watson to do case management or recommendation management are still not available in Maximo.
  • Maximo has been a bit of challenge to deploy but we know that in the long term integrated asset management will be key to our success.
  • We do have a good return on investment when it comes to managing inventory in Maximo.
  • We feel that IBM has not done a good job of providing big picture thinking on how we can take strategy across the asset life cycle and execute that in a single system, i.e. Maximo.
Maximo is a good tool and, as I suggested, it is the system of choice for us. We continue to explore opportunities where we can replace our legacy systems in risk management and field mobility with Maximo. Maximo has to work harder to provide a clear picture of how we can do effective asset planning, strategy, and maintenance within one system.

IBM Maximo Application Suite
2 years of experience
As a utility, we use IBM Maximo Application Suite for a plethora of areas: Work Orders for our field services, Purchasing Requisitions/Orders, Receiving Confirmation, Inventory for storerooms and usage, and Purchase Contracts for labor/lease/warranties. Essentially, IBM Maximo Application Suite addresses the needs of our procurement and supply chain for larger, capitalized purchases. In order to track the requisition, shipment/receiving, procurement, inventory, accounting, and contract side of larger purchases that are not immediately expensed, we acquired IBM Maximo Application Suite. In order to properly account against funds allotted for multi-million dollar projects, IBM Maximo Application Suite allows work done in the field, including the actual labor and material cost for specific work orders tied to the larger contract, to be tracked and reconciled. In addition, the actual contract and purchase orders can also be tracked in IBM Maximo Application Suite, with approvals and workflow provided in-product. Basically, the entire logistical supply chain process can be tracked through IBM Maximo Application Suite. At our organization, we have also set up IBM Maximo Application Suite to interface with our ledger in accounting. Thus, when a purchase is made, or an invoice created via a completed work order, actual journal entries are created in our GL. This automated function removed layers of paperwork related to past processes.
  • Tracking the beginning-to-end flow of procurement
  • Categorizing work orders (time, labor, material)
  • Interfacing with other applications via base configuration
  • Relatively easy to customize
Cons
  • May need to customize database-elements that should be out-of-the-box
  • Workflow setup not intuitive
IBM Maximo Application Suite is well suited for organizations looking for an application to track their end-to-end procurement and supply chain process. It can also be used for billing services, but that would mainly be for services provided as part of a work order, not voluminous customer billing. IBM Maximo Application Suite allows us to have one application where someone from procurement can input contracts and details, someone from any various department can create a requisition and superiors can use automated workflow to approve a purchase order, and someone at an operations location can receive and store materials. Subsequently, someone in the field can submit their hours and material used and it be approved via automated workflow for an invoice to be created. Payment functionality is possible, but we did not implement this aspect of IBM Maximo Application Suite. To note, throughout the process, interfacing can be set up to send transactions to your general ledger.
As far as interfacing, IBM Maximo Application Suite also offers tools and configuration to set up endpoints. We have been able to set up REST APIs and request/responses without heavy involvement from developers. This is a nice bonus if integrating with multiple applications.
  • Requisition Tracking and Approval
  • Inventory tracking
  • Invoice creation based on provided input from approved work orders
  • seamless work order and purchase order creation
  • ease of use for creating endpoints for other applications
  • Automated workflows in IBM Maximo Application Suite have allowed modernization of outdated processes relying on paper tracking and approval
  • Consolidating applications used for purchasing, receiving, and requisition, and removing the technological overhead of maintaining interfacing for those applications, has saved a considerable amount of money
IBM Maximo Application Suite, for the options we selected, was less expensive and offered more "in-product customization". This allowed us to modify to our needs and also continue to implement regular patches without special testing or a "blessing" by the application provider of changes made. Although IBM Maximo Application Suite offered somewhat less analysis options out-of-the-box, the configurability to integrate multiple, various applications more than makes up for this gap. By being able to integrate with multiple applications, analysis needs to be more tailored anyhow, so a less robust, out-of-the-box analysis was acceptable for us.
The various users of IBM Maximo Application Suite span the functionality that IBM Maximo Application Suite serves: Procurement, Operations, Accounting, and whichever department is entering a work or purchase order. Indirectly, there are many more users of IBM Maximo Application Suite's functions, as the application is integrated with many various teams' applications via API. Most frequent users of IBM Maximo Application Suite, however, are Procurement and Operations.
8
Application-support expertise (interpreting problems and analyzing) and general knowledge of IT concepts surrounding relational databases and application interfacing. At our company, the initial deployment perhaps required more interpersonal expertise and problem interpretation. After a few months, support shifted to more everyday troubleshooting and analysis of integration issues or for analysis of user issues.
  • automated creation of work orders
  • automated workflow approval/progression
  • purchase order and contract approval
  • integration with other applications
  • integrating with our general ledger
  • integrating with our Operational workforce time management system
  • creating endpoints for additional REST APIs to feed into or be provided information by
IBM Maximo Application Suite has provided a solution to our desire to consolidate the multiple applications serving the layers of the Procurement process we has been accustomed to using. By consolidating applications, licensing and software costs are reduced, and the overall headcount to support the various applications was able to be minimized.
The gui screens in IBM Maximo Application Suite are not overly cluttered with options to click and navigate to new areas. That is, the display is more of a layout of fields that the user can either input data or just interpret what is on the screen. For those in IT, there is even a feature (press Alt+F1) that will show you the exact table and column of any field selected.
  • Workflow approval
  • work order creation
  • endpoint creation for APIs
  • may feel overwhelming at first with multiple fields, but will later seem consolidated
  • may not be intuitive without training
Yes, but I don't use it
