Overall Satisfaction with Progress Kendo UI

We have used Kendo UI and other Telerik/Progress products for about 12 years. The library is highly effective for us and has allowed us to provide a strong user experience without the expense to develop custom controls. It is a very solid library and has worked for us in a number of web applications. In the few cases we have needed to contact support they have been very fast and skilled with both the product and technical communications.

Pros

  • Quality support.
  • Customizable library footprint.
  • WCAG support.
  • Works well with automated testing (TestComplete).

Cons

  • Heavy first load.
  • Customization needed for Knockout integration.
  • Difficult to know if features not compliant with WCAG are in use.
  • Custom development of equivalent controls would cost 10x or more that of the licenses.
Other products were not evaluated because Kendo UI was established as a solid option and we already leveraged UI for Ajax and UI for Winforms controls. I have experience with dojo/dijit, YUI, and jQuery controls but all are substantially more primitive that Kendo and related usage was over 10 years ago.
It is well suited to desktop scale web applications where bandwidth usage for the initial load is not critical. While customization of the package is possible it adds complexity. It is less useful when mobile devices and mimicking the native look and feel are needed since better libraries exist for this.
