Businesses of different sizes use both password management solutions. 1Password has features to protect user passwords while traveling off-network, so businesses where work involves travel often use 1Password. In contrast, LastPass for Business includes features to change passwords and fill in login information on websites automatically. As a result, businesses where users have many passwords can take advantage of LastPass for business’ automation tools to save time. Features Both 1Password and LastPass for Business provide key password management features such as password generation and autofill. In addition to the core features, both password management solutions also have some standout features. 1Password does security checks on every website that users visit. This feature, called “watchtower” helps to ensure that passwords aren’t compromised and warns users if they should change their password. 1Password also features a travel mode to protect sensitive passwords when using other networks. Users can select essential passwords, and when they leave the network, the passwords are removed until they return. LastPass for Business offers reliable automation tools that fill in the login information for a site as soon as it is visited to save time for users. Many popular sites are covered by LastPass for Businesses automated password change feature, which updates passwords for sites automatically to keep accounts as secure as possible. Lastly, LastPass for Business includes password sharing features on its cheapest plans. Limitations Though 1Password and LastPass for Business offer robust password management features, there are a few areas where they have limitations as well. 1Password lacks the automation tools provided by LastPass for Business. Additionally, the Windows version of the 1Password software is updated at a slower pace than the Mac version, meaning Windows users may lag behind in features. Password reset can also be difficult using 1Password. Users have to reach out to the administrator to reset passwords, rather than having an automated system in place. LastPass for Business does not offer an offline storage option. Lack of offline storage can be a problem for organizations that are wary of online password storage. LastPass for Business also doesn’t include a travel storage option. Lastly, multiple browser extensions are required to use LastPass for Business on multiple browsers, rather than a standalone app. Pricing Both 1Password and LastPass for Business offer free trials where users can test the products for a limited time before deciding if either is right for them. LastPass for Business provides a free version for individual users. 1Password has three pricing tiers for businesses. The Teams package costs $3.99 per month per user and comes with basic password management features, including password vaults and two-factor authentication. The Business package costs $7.99 per month per user and includes advanced protection features that administrators can enable. The Enterprise package is priced depending on the business and includes a dedicated account manager and setup training. LastPass for Business offers four packages for businesses. The Teams package contains basic password management features for small businesses and costs $4.00 per user per month. After that, the enterprise package includes improved integrations and administration features for $6.00 per user per month. The Identity package includes authentication features as well as password management features for $8.00 per user per month. I keep more than 100 passwords for financial sites for my company and many of those sites will automatically log you out if you've been idle for 10 or 15 minutes. Typing and re-typing credentials is not only extremely inefficient, but it also adds the risk that you could type them incorrectly and have your account locked.
